Ai Weiwei (* born 28 August 1957 in Peking) is a Chinese conceptual artist, sculptor and curator. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Following anti-government statements during the protest in China from April to June 2011, the human rights activist and dissident was detained and issued a travel ban until 2015. He then left the country, lived in Berlin until 2019, then moved to Cambridge in England before moving to the small Portuguese city of Montemor-o-Novo in spring 2021, where he plans to spend the rest of his life.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Study of Perspective<\/em> is the provocative work of the politically active and internationally renowned contemporary artist, Ai Weiwei. It refers to the photo series of the same name, in which Ai Weiwei photographed his raised middle finger in front of institutions, architectural landmarks, scenes and governments between 1995 and 2003, to encourage people to question their belonging and acceptance of these subjects. This series represents Ai Weiwei’s convictions with regard to freedom of speech, empowerment of the people and democratic values, showing his activist side in its true colours.<\/p>\n

Ai Weiwei provides a constant reminder that we must represent our own values and not those of others. Not only<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

has his work brought attention to a wealth of social issues but has also received support and inspired other activities.<\/p>\n

During his career as an artist, Ai Weiwei has brought his impressions of conceptual art and pop art to fruition, which focus on critically examining cultural history and global societal developments. With the assistance of renowned, traditional glass manufacturer Muranos, the artist\u2019s hand with its unmistakeable gesture was represented in glass. The first 6 of a planned 12 colours appeared in 2018, which were received with great acclaim on the art scene.
